When i first started this project, i was 185lbs. This is my 2nd week and my motto has become #GoHardorBeFat. At week 2 I weight 180lbs. Which means i lost 5lbs in 1 week, by eating healthier and drinking lots and lots and lots of water I have achieved this. Now I have 25lbs more to go and if i keep going at this rate i will lose my 30 lbs in no time. Im motivated, and i have great support which helps alot! So Im giving myself a pat on the back, and onward i continue!

Bikram Yoga
Saturday was my first session of Bikram Yoga. I must say it is very intense. At first i thought i was going to pass out. The room is at 104 degrees and you are sweating as soon as you walk in. Your first day the goal is just to stay in the room for the 90 min. There are about 26 postures in total, each posture 2 sets are done. The heat helps your flexibility.
I've gone 4 times now and I have to say I feel great! After Bikram yoga u feel refreshed and revived. This surge of energy rushes in you and it lasts all day. Any joint pain you had is gone and you sleep like a baby at night! It gives you a great sense of peace of mind. I absolutely love it! My cousin and I will be doing the 30 day challenge.
Each 90 minutes of Bikram yoga you do, you burn up to 1600 calories! If that's not a well rounded workout then I don't know what is! I recommend everyone to do it at least once.

Zumba!!!!
Last night was Day 2 of my 30 in 30 project. I went to a zumba class, one of the many free classes being offered by NYC.gov. If you want a fun way to exercise THIS IS IT! Zumba combines dance and exercise to give you a total body workout. The instructor knows what shes doing and she makes it fun for us. I love music, the music is all the dance hits of today and some oldies but goodies. When thriller by Michael Jackson came on and I caught myself actually doing the thriller video dance moves that's when i knew this was the class for me. Zumba if done for 60 minutes straight can burn 500 - 800 calories. That's pretty damn good considering you are basically just dancing. I love it! My body is definitely sore today, but that is only an indication that all those hip thrusts i did yesterday is working!
The class I go to is in Westchester Sq. in the Bronx and its from 7pm - 8pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The class gets really full which is always a good thing because it means its a good class. I encourage anyone who wants to have fun while working out to take this class.

Week 1 - Day 1
Took me a long time to get motivated to the point where I am today. I dont know how I got so lazy! I played basketball for almost 10 years starting in Jr. High all the way until College. It all ends today! I had a gym membership to planet fitness for 2.5 years and went 3 times. SMH! It was too much to get out of work at 5:30, to head uptown get to the gym by 6:30pm, workout and get home late. Now I have no excuse! NYC now offers a free fitness program. I chose Chelsea Rec. Center because its a 10 minute walk from my job. Classes start at 6pm end at 7pm I'm home at a decent time. Today was hip cardio dance. At first I wanted to just walk out and leave but I stuck through with it and actually felt good afterwards minus the soreness!
I have this really cool app called my fitness pal that counts my calories. I'm suppose to eat 1500 calories a day. Today I stayed under, and drank 8 cups of water! Today was a good day. *****

30 weeks from today - May 14, 2012
This blog is designed to help me document my 30 weeks. Writing has become my therapy. So I want to share my story to encourage others like myself.
I'm giving myself 30 weeks as of today to lose 30lbs. I recently quit smoking cigarettes after 10 long years of smoking. One day my boyfriend said he wouldn't kiss me anymore if i continued to smoke. The embarrassment and shame that came over me, convinced me to quit. I am 3 months in cigarette free! And within those 3 months i have gained 20 pounds, which is why many people are scared to quit smoking. I'm currently 185lbs and I am 5'8". May 14th, 2012 is my 30 week mark. Memorial Day weekend my mister and I will be planning a trip to Hawaii. My goal is to lose 30 pounds. I am taking full advantage of the free classes offered by http://www.nyc.gov/ all around the city. The Virgo in me has created a schedule and plan to take a 1 hour class every day after work at the Chelsea Rec Center on 25th between 9th & 10th. Along with eating healthier, drinking lots of water and gettinga good nights rest, i should be able to lose that weight in 30 weeks if not sooner.
Since I am tall, I don't want to go under 150lbs. I like my curves, I am a Latina, with lots of junk in my trunk and my boyfriend will leave me if i start looking goofy and slinky and lose my ASSets.
It took me too long to decide i wanted to lose this weight. I kept making excuses. The biggest excuse was I didn't want to do this alone. But you know what in this world, you are born alone and you are going to die alone so i started learning how to do things on my own, and stopped waiting around for people. I have to do this for me and because I want to. So today is Day 1.
